The EUROBIKE sustainability concept

As a leading platform for the sustainable mobility industry, EUROBIKE, plays a pioneering role when it comes to sustainability

With its relocation to Frankfurt, EUROBIKE is moving to become a sustainable and climate-neutral trade show.

To make this possible, we work on a number of fronts, from compensating for travel and show set-up to actively working together with the industry and associations to further develop sustainability across the sector.

Travel concept for visitors

In 2023 EUROBIKE was awarded the Deutsche Bahn Climate Mobility Challenge award for Event Mobility. Our travel concept includes a mobility strategy for travelling to the show by bike, including supervised bicycle parking. For visitors travelling from further afield, we work with Deutsche Bahn and regional transport associations to offer a special event ticket.

Thanks to its location in central Frankfurt, EUROBIKE is easy to reach by bicycle or public transport. By working together with our strong partners, we have been able shift the journeys of our exhibitors and visitors to public transport or encourage them to cycle or walk.

EUROBIKE Program

The topic of sustainability played a central role in the trade visitor program at EUROBIKE 2024.

Not only was a dedicated SUSTAINABILITY TRACK created for this topic, but the entire program was designed through the lens of the three-dimensional sustainability concept. Nearly all contributions addressed aspects of social, economic, or ecological sustainability.

Speakers at the program received train tickets to ensure a sustainable journey. Additionally, all travel emissions were offset at the end.

Sustainability was also established as a key criterion for the EUROBIKE AWARD to align with societal realities and needs.

Sustainable measures during the show

Daily operations on the exhibition grounds of a trade show as big as EUROBIKE represent a significant challenge. In 2022, we introduced a sustainability guideline for exhibitors to help them make their trade fair presence as sustainable as possible. This applies to everything from booth construction, to travel, transport, catering and renewable energy and recycling waste. We actively support exhibitors in their sustainability efforts by offering targeted services.

For example, EUROBIKE works with waste consultants during the show, to make waste separation and recycling significantly more efficient than events of a comparable size.

Air conditioning in the exhibition halls is managed with a considered approach that includes measuring and offsetting the CO² footprint.

Strategy and philosophy

The same as EUROBIKE, Messe Frankfurt is committed to climate protection and running sustainable business events. This forms the basis of its comprehensive sustainability strategy and environmental management system, including EMAS certification (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) and membership of the United Nations Global Compact.

Ecological responsibility

When it comes to ecological responsibility, for some time now Messe Frankfurt has been using 100 per cent renewable energy, sustainable water management and concepts such as green roofs to support air conditioning in its trade fair facilities. A large percentage of energy used by its exhibition grounds by comes from solar and photovoltaic systems on the large roofs.

Green Catering

Messe Frankfurt’s accente gastronomy service has its own sustainability concept and focuses on offering green catering. This includes opting to use fresh, seasonal products from within the region, saving resources and energy when cooking, and avoiding waste.
