The BOSCH Smart System ‘SX motor’ with Rohloff E-14: Greater sportiness and improved ergonomics!

Quick and easy electronic shifting of a Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 has been possible with the push of a button, since the introduction of the E-14 electronic shifting mechanism back in 2017. Regardless of whether a single shift, multishift or auto-downshift, the E-14 system enables maximum shifting comfort in all conditions.
The Rohloff E-14 system has been improved for MY25 – now also harmonizing with the smart Bosch SX motor. This light, yet powerful motor is becoming more and more commonplace, particularly in MTB and gravel segments of cycle sport, so its inclusion in the E-14 motor family was only a matter of time. The Bosch SX motor is now optimally complemented with the Rohloff E-14 electronic shifting system and works hand in hand thanks to the new “Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN adapter2” (Art.#8802-05).

Ceramic capacitors within the ‘Rohloff E-14 DC-CAN Adapter2’ ensure a stable power supply for the Rohloff E-14 during a shift. This now permits the E-14 system to plug into the Bosch Component Connector (BCC), without fear of component damage.

This option will be available immediately for those running flat-bars with the already available and well-known E-14 Switch Unit (Art.#8801). An electric trigger shifter (Art. 8801-04) will be offered as an additional flat-bar option as of Fall 2024.

E-14 in combination with dropbars

For those who appreciate fast gravel laps, bikepacking, or merely the various hand positions offered by use of a drop-bar, we are also pleased to announce E-14 compatibility with the ‘TRP Hywire’ brifter
Thanks to a collaboration with the brake specialist TRP, we managed to develop a solution to ensure the TRP Hywire can be used as an alternative E-14 shifter, offering dropbar fans the option of running this handlebar style, whilst retaining the ergonomics of commonly placed controls.

In order to use the “TRP BRIFTER” with your E-14 system, you need require the appropriate E-14 adapter cable (Art.#8812). This component will be available as of Q4 2024.

New Rohloff Tool for Enhanced Workshop Support

Providing more support for specialty retailers, faster service, and happier customers.

With the new Rohloff Sprocket Carrier Removal Tool (Art.#8522), workshops are empowered, to get customers get back on the road as quickly as possible. This tool will ensure a workshops ability to remove the carrier, regardless of whether using a Splined Carrier, or Splined Lockring Carrier. Replacement can now easily be done on-site in the workshop, even with a stuck or worn Rohloff Splined Carrier.

Where it was previously necessary to ship the SPEEDHUB to Rohloff to remove a stuck Carrier, this new tool will eliminate that time-consuming process entirely. "We are not only aiding retailers with the ability to show their competence, but also resolving potential issues more quickly and effectively through direct consumer interaction", explains Rohloff's product management.

The Rohloff Sprocket Carrier Removal Tool (Art.#8522) is designed to be used together with the Rohloff Lock-Ring Tool (Art.#8518), and a standard ½” impact driver.

ROHLOFF E-14 2.0

The new electronic Rohloff E-14 shifting system raises the bar for shifting E-bikes transmissions. Never before has shifting been so easy, intelligent and comfortable. All this combined with legendary Rohloff quality.

The new E-14 from Rohloff synchronizes perfectly with the mid-motor, Bosch eBike system to operate the now legendary Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14. Urban, leisure, touring and mountain-bikers alike can reap the benefit of the unique, fast and failure-free shifter system.

One push of a button is all it takes to automatically reduce motor derived force upon the transmission and shift the SPEEDHUB. If the button is kept held, then the E-14 shifting system will shift 3-gears at a time in sequence, through all 14 gears if so desired. In addition, once the sensors note the cyclist has become stationary, the E-14 system will automatically shift to a pre-programmed gear to start off again. The Rohloff E-14 is the most efficient and durable shifting system available for mid-motor E-bikes.

LEGENDARY BASIS

The E-14 is designed to complement the SPEEDHUB 500/14. It is this partnership which forms the basis and ensures the durability of an E-14 shifting system.

The SPEEDHUB has, over the past 20 years, proving its reputation as the most durable and reliable bicycle transmission available. SPEEDHUBs have been used in cooperation with E-bikes for almost the same duration, solidifying their position as the only bicycle transmission capable of withstanding such high forces over prolonged periods of time.

With 14 real gears, a total overall gear range of 526% and the highest efficiency of any bicycle gear hub, the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 forms the durable basis of every premium, high powered E-Bike and S-Pedalec (45kmh). Now, thanks E-14. the ability has arrived to shift this legendary transmission electronically.

The E-14 shifting system comprises of 2 main components: - the handlebar mounted electronic switch unit and the SPEEEDHUB mounted shifter unit. To ensure these components are relevant and compatible with future developments, the E-14 shifting system can be remotely paired to Smartphones, keeping it compliant with future software updates, custom features and app connectivity. Feature to become active simultaneously with App release.

EFFECTIVE WITH BOSCH

Bosch Intuvia, Nyon and Kiox plus displays can all integrate the E-14 gear indicator and a lot more besides...

The eBike-System synchronizes automatically with the Rohloff E-14. The benefits of this become immediately apparent once you set off. A light press of a button will reduce motor torque to permit a silky-smooth shift between gears. The secret is an ultra-fast, 180ms shift speed combined with an instantaneous drop in output torque from the motor. No bicycle shifting system can compete with this speed to date.

Further shifting comfort is achieved thanks to integrated multi-shift and auto-downshift functions. Press and hold a shift button to shift sequentially in 3-gear steps 1 + 3 + 3 + 3 / 1 - 3 - 3 - 3), regardless of direction, right through the 14-speed range. And when you come to a halt, the E-14 shifting system will automatically return the SPEEDHUB to a pre-programmed gear number, ready to set off again.

ROHLOFF APP FÜR E-14 WITH BOSCH SMART SYSTEM

The new Rohloff E-14 2.0 App is available for download on both Android and IOS platforms. This App is required for individual set-up and service functions of E-14 2.0 in conjunction with a Bosch Smart System. Features include:

• Auto-Downshift set-up (start gear 4 to 9)
• Shift direction set-up (+/-)
• Deactivation of Multishift feature
• Service features - direct online links to processes (calibration, firmware updates, diagnosis upload, error code cache, owners manual)

The new Rohloff E-14 Trigger Shifter (Art. 8801-04) will expand the Rohloff range for MY 2025 and elevate the ergonomics of the E-14 system to a new level. For further improved comfort, the E-14 2.0 App will even permit E-14 2.0 users to decide which lever shifts in which direction, by simply inverting the shift direction.

The new Trigger is retrofittable to all existing Rohloff E-14 / Bosch combinations and can be easily self-installed via our user-friendly plug-and-play design.
An E-14 firmware update will be required via the "Rohloff E-14 1.0 Classic App" before this trigger will function for owners of the older E-14 system (E-14 1.0 (Bosch BES2)).
