MAGURA presents the VYRON MDS-V3

MAGURA presents a completely new development of the wireless seat post with this third evolutionary stage of the VYRON. Thanks to its intuitive operation, lightning-fast response and extension speed, and high level of resilience with IP67 certification, the new VYRON MDS-V3 is now even more user-friendly and reliable.

Six years ago, MAGURA ushered in a new era of electronically controlled bicycle components. The MAGURA VYRON was the first Vario seat post on the market to be equipped with wireless remote control and has received several awards since then.
This third evolutionary stage of the VYRON was developed from scratch. It sets new standards for intuitive operation, resilience and speed.

New, intuitive operation

The seat post and the remote have been redesigned from the ground up. The VYRON MDS-V3 remote can be ergonomically placed on the underside of the handlebar, just like the gear lever on the right-hand side. It’s easily accessible with the thumb and can be optionally mounted on the brake master with the MAGURA Shiftmix clamp. An aluminium protective ring ensures high resistance to impacts or falls.

Communication between the remote and the seat post is lightning-fast and instantaneous via Bluetooth, and the intuitive operation of the new VYRON MDS-V3 is similar to that of conventional, wired seat posts – the seat post will adjust for as long as the operating lever on the remote is actuated by the thumb.

A high level of resilience and IP67 certification thanks to the new battery concept

Mud, moisture and dirt are the enemies of all electronics. To protect the control unit, the new VYRON MDS-V3 dispenses with a charging socket, relying instead on a sealed battery cover. A replaceable CR2 lithium battery with a service life of at least one year is used for the power supply. Thanks to this pioneering battery concept, the new VYRON is IP67-certified and will even survive brief immersions in water – so it’s ready for the most challenging days on the trail.

New hydraulics for more speed

The hydraulics inside the seat post are also uncompromisingly designed for speed. The wholly redesigned inner workings of the post and a new, faster actuator ensure a perfect flow of oil between the hydraulic chambers. The result is a seat post that adjusts downwards at lightning speed when riders need it most.

The MAGURA MDS-V3 is available in two diameters and four travel variants (100 mm, 125 mm, 150 mm & 175 mm). By changing the inner tube base, the travel of the seat post can be easily adjusted from 175 to 150 mm and from 125 to 100 mm. This saves money, increases flexibility and ensures that the VYRON can also be quickly and easily mounted on other bikes.

The RRP of the MAGURA VYRON MDS-V3 is €579.90 (incl. 19% german VAT).

What’s behind the name VYRON MDS-V3?

MDS stands for MAGURA Dropper Seatpost, and V3 for the third version. When it was released in 2016, it was the first remote-controlled electronic Vario seat post on the market, and it has since received several awards.

How is this VYRON different from its predecessor?

In every way! This new VYRON was developed from scratch. It offers redesigned inner workings, new electronics and a newly developed, ergonomic remote control. Most notably, we switched from ANT+ remote technology to high-speed Bluetooth, making its operation much more intuitive. The duration of the thumb pressure determines how long the seat post will be adjusted, so the rider no longer has to depend on a fixed time interval of the actuator. And that with a travel of up to 175 mm.

The new VYRON is supposed to be very resilient. What was done to make the new VYRON so hard-wearing?

Water and dirt are the enemies of all electronics. To effectively protect the head of the new VYRON from dirt and water, we dispensed with a charging socket. We now use a replaceable CR2 lithium battery instead and a sealed, screwed battery cover. It’s also IP67-certified, so it survives brief immersions in water.

For whom is the VYRON the right choice?

For everyone! From Cross Country to Enduro. It’s available with 100, 125, 150 and 175 mm travel variants and diameters of 30.9 and 31.6 mm. So the seat post is the right choice for all frame sizes.

MAGURA Integral Braking System (IBS)

Innovation for cargo bikes: MAGURA to present a Integral Braking System for the first time

Optimum braking force distribution between the front and rear wheels is a crucial factor in short braking distances – and greater safety on the bike as a result. However, both brakes can only provide optimal deceleration values if they interact perfectly with one another. Pad wear evaluations by MAGURA show that the rear brake is usually used much more frequently in everyday use. Many cyclists seem afraid of the front wheel locking or skidding, so the front brake sees either little or no use. The inner calm and the routine to use both brakes optimally is often lacking, especially in unexpected dangerous situations, when everything happens so quickly. However, it's in situations like this that perfect braking is absolutely crucial.

Now the new MAGURA Integral braking system comes into play.

Specifically, the Integral Braking System functions as a brake force distributor between the front and rear brakes. When the rear brake is applied, the IBS also provides a simultaneous and proportional deceleration of the front wheel. Combining both brakes in this way provides much better deceleration. The distribution ratio to the front and rear wheels can be individually adjusted at the factory for each usage scenario or vehicle.

"The new Integral Braking System especially helps inexperienced riders to use both brakes together, significantly shortening the braking distance.

If you decelerate your bike mainly with the rear brake, you not only increase the wear on the rear brake enormously, you also lose safety and stability," says Christian Büchle, R&D MAGURA. A study shows that combined braking with the Integral Braking System leads to a braking distance that is about 40 % shorter - compared to braking without IBS using the rear brake (on a dry road). The stopping distance with the IBS is at about the same level as with optimal braking with front & rear brakes. If the IBS is used exclusively, a very good stopping distance can be achieved even in frightening situations.

The MAGURA Integral Braking System

The Integral Braking System from MAGURA complements the MT C disc brakes family – and it’s not much bigger than a pack of cigarettes. The IBS’s understated design is barely noticeable, and integration into wheel concepts is both possible and easily done.

The system works purely mechanically, without any power source. Special brake tubings with Easy Link couplings make handling easy. During servicing or maintenance, the IBS box can be disconnected from the tubing in just a few simple steps.

For the market launch, MAGURA first designed the IBS for cargo bikes, particularly for the “Long John” design, meaning two-wheeled cargo bikes on which the load is transported in front of the rider. Complete bikes with MAGURA IBS will be available in 2025 at latest.
The company is planning medium-term developments that will extend IBS usage scenarios to city, trekking and allroad bikes. A retrofit option is not planned for the time being.

Proven technology from the motorcycle sector

IBS systems have long been proven and established on motorcycles. MAGURA is once again using the technology transfer from its motorbike business division and is now bringing this technology to the bicycle as a world premiere. The IBS will complement MAGURA’s product range alongside its line of ABS brake components.

Whereas the Bosch eBike ABS with MAGURA brake components offers a fully electronic control function, the IBS technology is based on a purely mechanical-hydraulic system.
