Eurobike and Bike Europe partner to launch strategic tool: Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI)

2 Jun 2025

Germany/the Netherlands – Key economic and sourcing data turned out to be essential to steer the industry in today’s challenging and volatile markets. The bicycle industry currently lacks this information to identify future market trends and a sourcing benchmark.

Eurobike and Bike Europe will close this gap in close cooperation together with the market research institute IFH Cologne in Germany. Together, they introduce the Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI), which will inform the sector on market sentiment and provide the essential benchmark for business decision-making. The Global Bicycle Purchasing Index will gauge market sentiment among purchasing and product managers.

The last five years have shown that the bicycle industry is lacking key economic indicators on a global level. The peak in sales in 2020-2021, which was followed by a market adjustment in 2022, in combination with an extremely high level of orders resulted in an inventory crisis. The industry still has not overcome this fluctuation. An industry-dedicated Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI) would have softened this problem.

The Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI) provides:

  • Early access to real-time indicators
  • Benchmarking across global regions
  • Strategic foresight for developments in the supply chain

A key economic indicator like the Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI) is still unknown to the international e-bike and bicycle industry. Based on surveying purchasing and product managers, the Global Bicycle Purchasing Index is the tool that assesses the industry's overall health and performance.

The Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI) provides need to know information for:

  • Company management of component manufacturers, OEMs and brands
  • Large retail companies
  • Market analysts
  • Consultants
  • Industry organisations

Professionals working in product management, purchasing, or procurement are invited to take part in the survey here: https://ifh.survalyzer.eu/dmmotkokxe.

Live Premiere at Eurobike 2025

The first results of the Global Bicycle Purchasing Index (GBPI) will be officially presented at Eurobike 2025 as part of the conference program (more details):
