In his 70th year (2018), Heinrich Pingel, doctor of history and educator, embarks on a life-history journey with the e-bike. Six weeks and 1,500 km from the Czech Republic to the Baltic Sea, always following the former German-German border. From East to West and back, sometimes accompanied by a friend and his daughters. The Green Belt, the former patrol path, uphill and downhill represents a physical and mental challenge despite the e-bike with full luggage.

Magnificent landscapes, mountains in the Franconian-Thuringian border area, along the picturesque Werra, the Harz Mountains with a climb to the Brocken, but also the Elbe and the Mecklenburg Lake District are a reward. At the same time, however, the six-week journey is a confrontation with the hot summer of 2018 and the signs of the ongoing destruction of nature. The many conversations with people on both sides of the former border provide access to German history, including one's own as a refugee child in the 1950s.

In the course of the trip, a travel blog was created, and in 2019 it was published as a book. The author shows a large number of pictures of his journey and reads from the book at certain points.
