Euro-Bike and Walking Tours

Q. How long has Euro-Bike & Walking Tours been in business?
A. We're Glad you asked! Euro-Bike & Walking Tours has been a family-owned business for 34 years. It was started by Dutch emigrant Dr. Henk Hoeve and is now run by his son, René in the United States and family friend and second generation partner Ron van Dijk in Europe.

Besides being the first U.S. company to offer European cycling tours, we continue to be the favorite by those in the know!

If you would like to speak with someone from your area that has been on a tour, contact us and we'll provide references. Once you have joined us, you will see why our travelers return year after year.

Q. What level of bicycle riding or walking ability do I need to enjoy a tour?
A. You don't need to be an avid cyclist or hiker to enjoy a Euro-Bike & Walking Tours vacation. We rate our tours by level of difficulty for bicycle tours and level of difficulty for walking tours so you can find one that fits. But don't let a challenge intimidate you. Chances are you're better than you think. In addition, if you want a greater challenge, we always offer extra mileage options on our bicycle tours.

Q. What age group do you cater to?
A. We welcome couples, singles, families with children, friends, and groups of all ages. From 4 to 84, our customers of every age have loved every moment of their Euro-Bike & Walking Tours adventure! We have several tours we recommend to families with young children. Please ask about these!

A. We do the work so you can enjoy your vacation. Each day you will find your luggage in your hotel room when you arrive. You carry just the things you need for your cycling (or walking) day.

Q. Do we cycle as a group?
A. You are free to be as independent as you like. Each morning your guides hold a presentation to let you know about the route and what to expect along the route. Maps and written directions will be given to each cyclist. Throughout each day the guides check on our guests, offer snacks, information or provide a lift if desired. Our guides also carry a cell phone so you can contact them at any time during your ride or walk.

Q. Where will we be staying?
A. Our Luxury tours boast 4- and 5-star hotels. On Comfort tours we stay in 3-star hotels. Budget departures feature 2- and 3-star hotels. All of our hotels have been extensively researched and are distinguished for their European charm, comfort, facilities and location. Each room has a private bathroom. Before you leave on your tour you will receive a list of the hotels with address and phone numbers to share with relatives or friends.

Q. How far do we ride or each day?
A. We cycle an average of 25 to 35 miles per day. If this seems long, remember you have all day to do it and will still have plenty of time to visit points of interest, stop and shop, take photos, have lunch or just meander through an interesting little town. There are also alternate routes for those who would like a greater challenge and shortcuts for those who want less riding during any given day, and if you would like to ride less you can always accept a lift from the support vehicle. You are free to choose your own riding companions.

Q. Are meals included?
A. All Tours include breakfasts in the price of the tour. Luxury tours include four dinners on tours of up to eight days and five dinners on tours of nine days or more. Comfort tours include three dinners and Budget tours include two dinners (on the first and last night).

All dinners include wine and are multi-course regional delights. On nights when no dinners are included there are plenty of dining choices. Your guide will be happy to make a recommendation, reserve a table, and give you a lift to the restaurant of your choice.

These dinners include wine and are multi-course regional delights. On nights when no dinners are included there are plenty of dining choices and your guide will be happy to recommend a restaurant, make reservations and give you a lift to the restaurant of your choice. Over the years we have found that customers prefer this balance between group and private dinners.

Q. Is it OK if I come on a bike trip by myself?
A. Certainly! We have many guests who come along by themselves. Most make new friends along the way and find things in common (including biking speed) with other guests. Of course, you're always free to go at your own pace and decide when and where you want to stop. If you agree to share a room with another single (of the same sex) we will not charge you a supplement for a single room. If you prefer to have your own room, we suggest you pay the single supplement. The fee is based on the tour cost.

Q. Can you arrange a custom bicycle tour for my family or group?
A. Whether you're planning a family trip, a club or business adventure, or a reunion with old friends, we can help! We've got trips that will keep everybody happy, with just the right mix of activities and sightseeing. We make it easy for you to plan a trip with your group's special needs in mind.
